The 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York are one of the American fashion calendar's most photographed nights. RunwayTwin's Drop Radar picked up the twelve looks that fashion press covered most in the days after, identified every visible piece, and priced each one three ways: the credited original, a mid-range version and a high-street version.
€79,720
the 12 original looks combined
€3,950
the 12 best-value recreations combined
3.9%
median share of the original price
57%
median Twin Score of those recreations
In plain terms: for every €100 the originals cost, the recreations cost about €4, and they get a little more than half of the look right. That second number matters more than the first. A dupe that costs 4% and looks 4% like the original is not a bargain.
Every look, priced
| Look | Credited designer | Originals | Best-value version | Twin Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lupita Nyong'o | GapStudio, Elsa Peretti for Tiffany | €4,100 | €155 | 82% |
| Elle Fanning | Coach, Cartier | €29,600 | €1,600 | 89% |
| Demi Moore | GapStudio, Jimmy Choo | €8,850 | €660 | 74% |
| Keke Palmer | Bob Mackie (vintage) | €2,500 | €350 | 70% |
| Laufey | Thom Browne | €5,745 | €225 | 66% |
| Rosé | Saint Laurent | €4,350 | €130 | 58% |
| Becky G | Carolina Herrera | €5,250 | €140 | 56% |
| Alexa Chung | Tory Burch | €1,625 | €140 | 54% |
| Hailey Bieber | Saint Laurent | €5,800 | €190 | 53% |
| Zoë Kravitz | Saint Laurent | €5,650 | €170 | 52% |
| Rose Byrne | Carolina Herrera | €3,800 | €95 | 50% |
| Tinashe | Christopher John Rogers | €2,450 | €95 | 44% |
The most copyable look of the night was made by Gap
Lupita Nyong'o wore a custom GapStudio look: a red cotton-jersey crop top and maxi skirt, with a light-wash denim trucker jacket over her shoulders and Elsa Peretti silver at the ears and wrists. The recreation scores 82% for €155. Nothing else on the list comes close at that price.
The reason is fabric, not brand. Jersey, denim and polished silver are materials the high street makes well. A Levi's trucker jacket is almost the same object as the one on the carpet; a red jersey skirt from a good high-street label reads the same from three metres. The piece that holds the look's identity, the Elsa Peretti cuff, is also the piece where the original is the only real option, and it is a small part of the frame.
Saint Laurent dressed the night in gold, and gold is hard to fake
Three of the twelve looks were Saint Laurent, and all three were gold: Hailey Bieber's brocade top and embroidered skirt, Zoë Kravitz's crinkled metallic dress, and Rosé's brocade crop top and slit skirt. Keke Palmer's vintage Bob Mackie gown made four gold looks out of twelve.
All three Saint Laurent looks land between 52% and 58%. Brocade and metallic leather are where cheap versions give themselves away: the weave flattens, the gold turns yellow, and the fabric loses the weight that makes it hang. A €60 gold top gets the colour; it rarely gets the surface.
Why Elle Fanning's recreation costs €1,600
Elle Fanning's look is the outlier in both directions. The originals come to €29,600, of which €25,000 is a Cartier Panthère pendant. Strip the necklace out and the rest of the look is an ordinary price for a red carpet. The best-value version spends €1,600 because the dial keeps the long leather coat and the silk slip dress close to the original, and those two pieces carry the look. It scores 89%, the highest of the night.
The hardest look to fake
Tinashe's Christopher John Rogers look, a striped bra top over a black taffeta maxi skirt with yellow, red and white panels, scores 44%. Paneled taffeta with that much volume is construction, not fabric, and the high street does not make it. Rose Byrne's polka-dot drop-waist Carolina Herrera gown (50%) fails for the same reason: the silhouette is the design.
Method
- Looks: the twelve 2026 CFDA Awards outfits most covered by Vogue, Who What Wear, The Zoe Report, Harper's Bazaar, BuzzFeed and others in the three days after the event, collected by RunwayTwin's Drop Radar.
- Pieces: every visible garment, shoe, bag and piece of jewellery. Designers marked as credited only where press coverage credits them.
- Prices: the original's estimated current retail price in euros; mid-range and high-street prices are for typical comparable pieces sold in the EU. All prices are estimates.
- Twin Score: an AI estimate (0–100%) of how close each version gets to the original on cut, fabric, colour and detail, weighted by how much each piece defines the look.
- Best-value version: the cheapest combination before extra spending stops buying resemblance, capped at 35% of the cost of the most expensive combination.
